Lifeline North East - Crook - Martin Thompson

Michael Smith, Martin’s Be Enterprising coach said: “In light of the current economic climate it can seem hard to become self-employed.  Making such a move can feel daunting and, at Be Enterprising, we try to remove some of the pressure a new business owner faces. We are delighted to have been able to offer Martin the support he needed and we hope to be able to help him to ensure Lifeline North East flourishes.”

Martin is keen to promote fire safety and says: “Sufficient fire protection saves lives.  Companies and organisations in the UK are required by law to employ Passive Fire Protection measures and it’s vital that the public become aware of having adequate fire protection.”

Passive Fire Protection is a way of preventing fire from spreading rather than actually extinguishing it, and is done by preserving the integrity of walls, doors, ceilings and floors. Recently passed legislation suggests that the use of qualified installers may become compulsory in the near future.

With Be Enterprising’s support, Martin was able to undertake a course run by the Nationwide Association of Passive Fire Installers and Specifiers (NAPFIS). Martin has now completed his qualification and, with the continued support of Be Enterprising, Lifeline North East has started trading.

Martin said: “The most valuable aspect of Michael’s help was his advice.  Be Enterprising was there every step of the way, guiding me through the process of setting up on my own and providing encouragement.  I cannot stress strongly enough my gratitude to Michael.  Be Enterprising has helped to make my dream into a reality.”
