Case Study : One Stop Home Improvements - Noel McCallum

Based from home in Stanley, Noel McCallum decided to secure his future when he left the forces by training and starting his own business, One Stop Home Improvements, offering kitchens, bathrooms and electrical services to homes across Derwentside.

Noel said: “With a young family to care for I wanted to ensure a smooth transition from Army to civilian life.  I looked at all of the options available and decided that self employment would suit me best.”

Noel used his experience and skills to train in home improvement techniques before leaving the forces.  After engaging with Business Link, and with a head for planning, Noel approached Be Enterprising for support with the final stages of his business start up.  He was awarded a grant which he used to train in Part P Electrics and purchased the testing equipment.

Noel adds: “My family have always been proud of my achievements and I am pleased to be able to say that starting my own business has been one of the best decisions I have made.”
