Case Study : Base Jump Arts - Carla Davison
With the help of Be Enterprising, a young performing artist from Derwentside has turned her successful career working with young people into her own business.
Carla Davison, is a 22 year old with great aspirations. Leaving school with few achievements she has now started her own theatrical arts company, Base Jump Arts.
Carla said “School wasn’t a great experience for me and I didn’t have any real vision for my future. However, the opportunities that have come my way since then and the belief that people had in me gave me the focus I needed”
She was awarded the Evening Chronicle Young Achievers Award in 2008 for work she has done whilst employed Theatre Cap-a-Pie. Unfortunately Carla was made redundant earlier this year but it didn’t stop her continuing her work. Carla used the opportunity to take her skills and experience and start her own business.
After a chance meeting at a local event, Carla began working with Be Enterprising Coach Michelle Rose. Michelle said “when I first met Carla she was buzzing with energy and enthusiasm. We worked together to produce a business plan and accessed some grant support for everything from business cards, branding and dressy-up costumes! Carla is now well on her way to having a successful business and I wish her every success”
Base Jump Arts works runs dance and drama workshops, arts and crafts and issue based drama for young people aged 5 to 19. Future plans for Base Jump Arts are to run children’s parties, wedding performances and taking the issue based drama workshops into regional schools.
