Case Study : Lynn Cameron Plastering - Consett
Not your typical plasterer, Lynn’s previous employment goes against the stereotypical male roles. At just 20 years old she joined Go Ahead as the one of the first female bus drivers and went on the drive coaches for a private holiday company before finally deciding to train as a plasterer and start her own business.
Lynn said “It wasn’t easy being in a male dominated industry but I have always been a ‘hands on’ worker. I found a niche in the market for female plasterers and decided to give it a go. Starting my own business also means that I can provide a better future for my son who I am planning to take on as an apprentice.”
Lynn accessed the Be Enterprising support and received a grant to put towards the purchase of some tools and equipment.
Lynn added “The support and experience of my coach is invaluable to me starting up. It’s daunting setting up for the first time on your own but having someone who is there to guide you every step of the way helps you to realise your goals”
